No Blood? Be Positive! The ABCs of Autotransfusion
Many veterinarians are faced with managing acute hemorrhage in dogs and cats without access to robust stored blood products. This presentation will highlight various scenarios where autotransfusions prove invaluable during hemostatic resuscitation, including cases of trauma-induced hemorrhage, neoplasia, toxicities, and intraoperative bleeding. Through case studies, attendees will become familiar with the indications as well as contraindications and limitations of autotransfusion. Participants will receive instruction on techniques, applications, and benefits of this modality that can be integrated immediately into emergency and general practice.
