Description

This interactive and hands-on workshop is structured into three main sections, each addressing crucial aspects of small animal blood banking. The first section centers on small animal blood banking fundamentals, covering blood donor selection criteria, blood collection techniques, and component processing and storage protocols. Following this, there are two pre-compatibility testing segments dedicated to blood typing and crossmatching. Discussion includes canine and feline blood types, their clinical relevance, and an exploration of various typing methods. Attendees also delve into crossmatching decisions, learning when to conduct crossmatching and how to interpret the results effectively. The workshop incorporates instructional videos, visual aids, and hands-on practice sessions utilizing blood typing and crossmatching kits with samples of different types and compatibilities. To facilitate in-depth learning and interaction, attendees divide into three smaller groups and rotate through the three focus areas.
